Fire officials are investigating the cause of a Tuesday evening structure fire in South Kona that destroyed a home and two vehicles.

Responding to the 6:58 p.m. report, firefighters arrived at a home on Painted Church Road to find it engulfed in flames, according to the Hawaii County Fire Department. No occupants were in the two-story home at the time.

Firefighters with the Captain Cook, Keauhou and Kailua fire stations battled the fire, which also destroyed two pickup trucks, according to the department. Crews used 22,000 gallons of water and 20 gallons of Class A foam, as well as a connection to a fire hydrant to extinguish the blaze.

A roadblock was required on Painted Church Road while firefighters doused the blaze. All crews returned to quarters shortly about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Damage to the wooden structure, which featured an asphalt shingle roof, was estimated at more than $437,000, according to the department.
